Salted Caramel Buttercream (Halved Recipe)
This smooth, sweet, and slightly salty buttercream is perfect for cookies, cupcakes, or cakes.
Ingredients
- ½ cup salted butter, softened
- 2 ½ tablespoons caramel sauce
- 2–3 cups powdered sugar
- Dash of milk or heavy cream (only if frosting is too thick)
Instructions
- Beat the butter:
In a large bowl, use a mixer to beat the softened butter on medium speed until it becomes light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).
- Mix in caramel
Add the caramel sauce. Continue mixing until fully combined.
- Incorporate powdered sugar:
Gradually add the powdered sugar, starting with 2 cups. Beat well after each addition. If a thicker frosting is desired, add more powdered sugar up to 3 cups total.
- Adjust consistency:
If the frosting becomes too thick, add a small dash of milk or heavy cream and mix until smooth and spreadable.
- Taste and finalize:
Taste the frosting and adjust the salt or caramel to your liking.
- Optional finishing touch:
Once applied to your dessert, sprinkle coarse salt on top for extra flavor and texture.
